Ground-breaking ceremony for Germany's largest timber module plant
From an economic perspective, 15 September 2022 was a day of celebration for the city of Eberswalde. The ground-breaking ceremony for Germany's largest timber module plant took place at the Eberswalde Technology and Business Park (TGE), located north of the city and the Oder-Havel Canal.
"Eberswalde has a long tradition as a business location and investments such as Timpla's here in our city are an exclamation mark for the entire region. With its philosophy and sustainable products, the company is a perfect fit for us as a city of sustainability and forestry," said Mayor Götz Herrmann at the event.
The Swiss company Renggli, together with three other shareholders, wants to produce prefabricated components for climate-friendly buildings in Eberswalde. In addition to Renggli, the investment company Saxovent Smart Eco Investments GmbH, Sächsische Ärzteversorgung and MQ Real Estate GmbH are also involved in "Timpla by Renggli".
Around 200 new jobs are to be created in the plant under the name Timpla. Fully equipped room components could be delivered from the plant as early as the end of 2023, which would then only need to be assembled on site. Initially, 1000 modules are to be built each year, with annual production of up to 2000 modules possible in a second stage.
Managing Director of Timplas, Roland Kühnel, expressly praised the city council, which had made a significant contribution to the establishment of the plant with its competent and attentive support of the project. For Eberswalde, the establishment of the plant is a stroke of luck after the collapse of many large industrial companies. "I look forward to Eberswalde soon being called a Timplaner," said Mayor Götz Herrmann. The town itself is also pursuing the clear goal of using wood as the central raw material for new buildings.
"Today's ground-breaking ceremony marks the end of a two-year journey that has been characterised by the common goal of developing and advancing the site," added Mayor Herrmann. In this particular case, the ground-breaking ceremony took place with the first symbolic screwing together of modules for the future factory.
