Once again this year, you can take part in the Eberswalde Participatory Budget. Find out how it works here.
The process
The ‘Eberswalde Citizens’ Budget’ process is simple. First, proposals are submitted; these are then assessed (costs, responsibility, feasibility); and finally, the people of Eberswalde vote directly on them. The selected proposals are then implemented the following year using the participatory budget.
The Eberswalde Citizens’ Budget thrives on the ideas and wishes of its residents, so we welcome any suggestions you may have as part of the Citizens’ Budget.
Proposals can be submitted very easily by
email(email hidden; JavaScript is required)
telephone(03334/64-200)
Post(City of Eberswalde, Treasury Department, Breite Straße 41–44, 16225 Eberswalde)
Leaflet(Detach the form, fill it in and send it to the above address)
or directly on thewebsite(Submit a proposal)
. You are also welcome to visit the town hall in person and share your ideas with us (please note the opening hours).
Proposals will be put to a vote provided that the criteria have been met.
When reviewing the proposals, only the criteria listed in the Eberswalde Participatory Budgeting Regulations are checked:
- all Eberswalde residents aged 14 and over may submit proposals (and also vote on them)
- The deadline for the participatory budget is 30 June each year
- the proposal must be feasible and fall within the remit of the City of Eberswalde
- the costs must not exceed €10,000
- and if the beneficiary of the proposal has already received funding from the participatory budget, they are ineligible for further funding for a period of three years (with the exception of the City of Eberswalde)
Simply cast your vote using the five voting tokens online or in person on the day of the decision!
Questions about the participatory budget
The town of Eberswalde has decided to allow its residents to play a much greater role in shaping the town’s development than is required by law.
To this end, there is a dedicated budget which the people of Eberswalde can decide how to allocate themselves – the so-called ‘citizens’ budget’.
At least €50,000 is made available each year.
Proposals must not cost more than €10,000, so that as many ideas as possible can be realised within the budget.
Furthermore, for example, an organisation that has received funding from the participatory budget may not receive any further funding (from the participatory budget) for a period of three years.
All residents of Eberswalde who are aged 14 or over. Nationality is irrelevant – anyone aged 14 or over living in Eberswalde can take part.
You can submit your own proposals and also vote on them (through direct democracy).
Online voting usually begins two weeks before the so-called ‘Decision Day’ (this is the in-person vote, which traditionally takes place in September).
On Decision Day, the residents of Eberswalde can decide which ideas will receive funding in the coming year.
Proposals can be submitted throughout the year.
Until30 June, proposals for the Eberswalde Participatory Budget can be submitted.
However, proposals received from 1 July onwards can only be considered for the following year. The proposals will be reviewed by the relevant departments in July and August so that the votes can take place in August or September.

Alternatively, proposals and ideas can be sent in writing or by telephone to the Treasury Department at the Town Hall, or handed in directly at the Citizens’ Information Desk at the entrance. Submitters should provide their address and date of birth.
