For safety reasons: Horse chestnut tree on Sommerfelder Chaussee must be felled

For reasons of road safety, a horse chestnut tree on Sommerfelder Chaussee in the Sommerfelde district - at house number 41 - will probably have to be removed on Thursday, 17 July 2025. This will also make it necessary to temporarily close the pavement on this day.
An expert examination commissioned by the civil engineering office found serious damage to the tree. Despite the tree's external vitality, there are deep areas of rot in the root area and at the base of the trunk, as well as pronounced rot in the roots. In addition, an aggressive fungal infestation was detected, which severely impairs the stability of the chestnut tree.
The risk of sudden tree failure - in particular due to a so-called root neck fracture - cannot be ruled out according to the expert opinion.
The decision to fell the tree was made after careful consideration and in close consultation with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority. The safety of all road users is the top priority here.
