Invitation to the panel discussion: 80 years since the end of the war - perspectives on the culture of remembrance

The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. In the GDR in particular, the "Day of Liberation" was celebrated as a central date of remembrance for many decades. To this day, 8 May has a firm place in the collective memory and is still part of a living culture of remembrance.

The Museum Eberswalde invites all interested citizens to a panel discussion on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, starting at 5 pm, to mark the historical anniversary. Under the title "80 years after the end of the war: Cultural Perspectives on Remembrance", Annette Leo, historian and publicist, and Jörg Morré, also a historian and director of the Berlin-Karlshorst Museum, will discuss the development and significance of commemorating the end of the war. Where does 8 May stand today - between historical responsibility, communal remembrance and a changing culture of remembrance?

The Museum Eberswalde welcomes all visitors and asks you to register in advance by e-mail (museum@eberswalde.de). Admission is free.
