Opening of the Madagascar House at Eberswalde Zoo

Fascinating refuge for endangered reptile and amphibian species

On 12 July 2025, the newly designed Madagascar House was officially opened at Eberswalde Zoo. It now offers a fascinating refuge for endangered reptile and amphibian species from the island of Madagascar - and at the same time draws attention to their protection.

"We don't just want to entertain, we also want to educate," emphasises zoo director Paulina Ostrowska. The Madagascar House impressively demonstrates how unique and at the same time endangered many of the island's species are.

Visitors can expect an exciting journey through Madagascar's animal world - with giant leaf-tailed geckos, bright blue bamboo day geckos, arrow-tailed geckos, strikingly coloured tomato frogs as well as colourful panther chameleons and well-camouflaged leaf chameleons.

The former forest ant house has been completely remodelled and offers the new residents natural habitats tailored to their needs.

With the Madagascar House, Eberswalde Zoo is sending out a strong signal in favour of species conservation and invites everyone to discover and preserve the diversity of Madagascar.
