10. Eberswalde Family Week - hands-on activities throughout the city centre
"Eberswalde generations in dialogue" is the motto of the 10th Eberswalde Family Week. This year, it will take place from Wednesday 15 May - International Family Day - up to and including Monday 1 June 2024. As usual, the themed week will once again feature a colourful and varied programme of activities that will extend across the entire city and is expressly intended for all generations.
The family week begins on 15 May at the Amadeu Antonio Citizens' Education Centre with a screening of the documentary "Walchensee forever" as part of the "Head cinema for young and old" series. The traditional senior citizens' afternoon in the zoo restaurant on Thursday 30 May is aimed more at the grandparents' generation.
As this year's motto suggests, the overall programme of the Family Week focuses on living together and the exchange between the generations in our city. This should be experienced with all the senses. How and what can old and young learn from each other? How can intergenerational justice be achieved? What is the reality of life for older and younger people in Eberswalde? These are questions that the Family Week attempts to answer. In addition to various arts and crafts activities, reading events, a flea market and small parties, there will also be various information events, games, a neighbourhood picnic, sporting events, an intergenerational meeting and much more. The Eberswalde Family Garden is hosting a family day and the local University for Sustainable Development is organising a fairytale forest rally.
Detailed information on the individual programme items can be found at www.eberswalde.de/familienwoche as well as the various online presences of the participating players.
"With the Eberswalde Family Week, we want to focus specifically on the concerns and needs of families. And 'family' can be many things. A boyfriend or girlfriend, a colleague or a neighbour can also be family. Family is living diversity and we want to honour this," says Bernd Schlüter, Head of Social Affairs, Order and Culture at Eberswalde Town Hall.
The Eberswalde Family Week is a joint event organised by the Eberswalde Local Alliance for Families and the City of Eberswalde. The patron of the alliance is Mayor Götz Herrmann.
The contact person for all questions relating to Eberswalde Family Week and the work of the Eberswalde Local Alliance for Families is Ms Tabea Westphal-Radisch from the Office for Generations, Sport and Integration.
