Symbolic ground-breaking ceremony at the Westend Stadium
Starting signal for the construction of the new functional building
On 27 January 2026, the go-ahead was given for the construction of the new functional building at the Westendstadion. With an investment of around 4.2 million euros, a modern, sustainable and barrier-free building for grassroots and school sports will be built by December 2027 - including new changing rooms, sanitary facilities, bowling alley, groundsman's base, PV system and green roof.
Mayor Götz Herrmann: "With the construction of the new functional building, we are continuing to make targeted investments in a modern, sustainable and barrier-free sports infrastructure for our city. The Westendstadion will not only fulfil the requirements of school and club sports, but will also become an attractive and inclusive meeting place. After all, sport is not only good for physical health, it also brings people together in spirit."
