Tree felling work in the park on Weidendamm

Tree felling work will be carried out in the park on Weidendamm in the 21st calendar week.

As part of an in-depth investigation, a tree in the park at Weidendamm near the playground was checked for stability and breakage. The examination revealed that the tree was suffering from advanced fungal infestation. This causes intensive brown rot, which greatly reduces the strength of the wood in particular. For reasons of road safety, it is therefore no longer possible to completely preserve the tree.

In order to ensure the safety of park visitors, but also to take ecological aspects into account, the tree will not be completely removed. Instead, it will be lowered onto a so-called habitat trunk (high torso). A section of the trunk several metres high will be retained and can continue to provide a habitat for insects, fungi and birds. The measure thus combines necessary hazard defence with the preservation of valuable structures for biodiversity in the urban area.

An appropriate barrier will be set up for the work. The playground will remain usable.
