A different kind of museum: International Museum Day on 17 May 2026

The Museum Eberswalde is taking part in this year's International Museum Day with two locations. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the museum depot will be open to visitors for the first time and various guided tours will also be offered at the museum in Steinstraße 3.

Programme in the depot

Under the motto "Committed to our museums", visitors will be given exclusive insights into the depot, which is otherwise not open to the public, for the first time. Since 2024, the more than 100-year-old collection - as part of the cultural and historical heritage of the city of Eberswalde - has been in good hands in the rooms of the former Barnim district archive. Furniture, ceramics, busts, fabrics and documents are just a few examples of the extensive historical collection. All objects can be stored there properly and securely in accordance with museum standards. During guided tours, the museum team and volunteers present the hidden treasures and provide exciting insights into the important tasks of the Eberswalde Museum, such as collecting, preserving, communicating, researching and exhibiting.

Programme in the museum at Steinstraße 3

The museum is located in the historic Adler Pharmacy, the oldest half-timbered house in the town of Eberswalde, just a few steps from the market square. House, town and regional history is presented on around 700 square metres. One of the most important exhibits is the complete replica of the famous Eberswalde gold treasure, the most important Central European gold find from the late Bronze Age (900 to 800 BC). The exhibition area on the top floor is currently focussing on the life's work of Luise Wiegand from Eberswalde, who left her mark on the region in her very own way and was involved in mapping the biotope for the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve, among other things. Another special exhibition shows old maps focussing on the Barnim and the village of Tuchen, which were drawn over by the Berlin artist Klaus Zolondowski on the occasion of the first documentary mention 650 years ago. To mark International Museum Day, harpist Paula Towadei Conrad will accompany the day with music in the Rococo Salon, transporting visitors to other times with her melodies.

- At 11 a.m. and 12 noon, Stephan Felsberg from the Fachwerkkirche Tuchen e.V. will guide visitors through the special exhibition "Tuchener Kartenwerke".

- Guided tours of the permanent exhibition will take place at 1 pm and 2 pm.
