Commemoration in Eberswalde

A sign of remembrance

On 7 May 2026, a total of ten Stolpersteine were laid in Eberswalde - a sign of remembrance for the victims of the National Socialist dictatorship. The occasion was the commemoration of the Katschinski and Gruber families as well as the Liebig and von Ploennies ladies at Marktplatz/Brunnenstraße, in the Leibnizviertel and in front of the Mühlbachhaus in Eichwerder Straße.

The ceremony began at 1.30 pm in the inner courtyard of the Paul Wunderlich House before the Stumbling Stones were laid in the city. Gunter Demnig carried out the laying ceremony, while pupils from Humboldt-Gymnasium immersed themselves in the biographies of the victims - in German and English - and showed historical photos.

Relatives of the victims travelled from Canada, Israel and Australia to take part in the memorial service. Thanks to the commitment of Ellen Grünwald and the Al Tishkach initiative, there are now 79 Stolpersteine in Eberswalde.

A big thank you goes to all participants, organisers, guests and especially the relatives present.
