Sonderausstellung „Adler-Perspektiven“ – das Museum Eberswalde stellt sich der Zukunft

The Eberswalde Museum looks in all directions along the timeline. For almost 30 years, the museum has been housed in the ‘Adler-Apotheke’ historic building. With exhibitions on local and regional history, a wide range of educational programmes and professional collection management, it has developed into one of the most important venues for culture and history in Brandenburg.

But museums are changing. Digitalisation, public engagement and new forms of exchange are becoming increasingly important alongside the traditional activities of collecting, preserving and exhibiting. What might a museum look like today and in the future? And what role does it play for the people of a town?

These questions are the focus of the new special exhibition ‘Adler Perspectives: Remember. Discover. Think Ahead.’, which opens on Friday, 25 September 2026.

A look back: treasures from the museum’s collection

The exhibition begins by exploring the development of the museum and its collection. Selected objects provide insights into the diversity and cultural-historical significance of the holdings. On display are, amongst other things, a 3.60-metre-high floor clock from Lichterfelde Palace, dating from around 1780; leaded-glass windows from the former ‘Haus der Kultur’ in Eberswalde; and a collection relating to the paper industry in the Eberswalde district of Spechthausen.

The objects not only tell stories from the period in which they were created, but also illustrate how our perspective on history has changed and what questions are being asked of museum collections today.

Looking ahead: the museum as a place for active participation

The special exhibition ‘Adler-Perspektiven’ also looks to the future. The exhibition invites visitors to discover new forms of participation and try out new formats.

Analogue gaming worlds and retro consoles meet digital play spaces. Visitors can step into the role of curators themselves and make their own decisions.

Throughout the exhibition, a ‘growing wall’ invites visitors to jointly develop visions for the museum of the future. Visitors’ ideas and wishes thus become part of the exhibition themselves.

‘Adler-Perspektiven. Remember. Discover. Think Ahead.’ thus becomes more than just an exhibition about the museum. It becomes a place where the town’s past meets its present and future, and where visitors are invited to tell their own stories, share memories and contribute special objects.
