The action fund gives residents, stakeholders, organisations and interested parties the opportunity to directly implement ideas in their neighbourhood. We support you with up to €250.
On 16 April, we were able to experience a special day together with the project initiator Mr Neumann, the children from the "Kinderinsel" after-school care centre and the senior citizens from the AWO nursing home "Wolfswinkel" and the nursing home "An der Barnimer Heide". The meadows on Frankfurter Allee were filled with cheerful voices, dirty hands and hearty laughter. Together, we planted and cared for plants at the Frankfurter Allee/Spechthausener Straße rainwater retention basin and on the meadow in front of the "Wolfswinkel" care home.
The dialogue between the generations was inspiring and enriching - we not only worked, but also talked and laughed a lot. This day showed once again how valuable joint commitment is for young and old. With the support of Eberswalde's building yard to water the newly planted shrubs, we hope that everything will blossom.
This action was more than just a contribution to beautification - it was a valuable example of how mutual learning and a lively community can unite generations.
We would like to thank everyone involved for their active support and look forward to further joint projects!
Over the past four years, a wide variety of plants have been planted in the green area by the rainwater retention basin on the corner of Frankfurter Allee and Spechthausener Straße. A cosy place to linger has now been created there. The planting and maintenance was carried out by senior citizens from the AWO and children from the Puss in Boots daycare centre, Noah's Ark daycare centre and the Kinderinsel after-school care centre. This year, I would like to take care of the plants planted here, including mulching and sowing regional seeds (flower seeds). We will provide information about mulching, which is an alternative way of keeping the soil moist, providing natural fertilisation and protecting the planting circle.
Another green space is now close to my heart. This is located on Frankfurter Allee, directly in front of the AWO care home. I would also like to plant and maintain it with senior citizens and children. The Kinderinsel after-school care centre already has a cooperation with the AWO. This makes a co-operation very suitable.
I selected the plant varieties (sea buckthorn, hawthorn and common viburnum), which are insect-friendly and native to the area, in consultation with the civil engineering department. The shrubs are robust, long-lived and flowering plants. Enclosed is a quotation from Barnimer Baumschule Biesenthal. Potting soil is required and purchased to plant the plants. All project participants/cooperation partners are responsible for watering and further care of the plants. Mowing work has already been carried out by the building yard or a company commissioned by the city since 2022. On the day of planting, I will practise planting and caring for the shrubs with children. A dialogue between different age groups has developed over the last two years and should continue to be encouraged. Senior citizens can pass on their experiences with plants in dialogue with the children.
The planting is expected to take place on 16 April 2025.
On 10 April, a community planting campaign took place in the morning on the meadows on Frankfurter Allee. Numerous committed participants took part in further enhancing the area and maintaining existing plantings.
They included children from the "Kinderinsel" after-school care centre, the AWO day care centre, representatives of the "Growing together" project, committed residents from the neighbourhood and the neighbourhood management team. Together, they tended to the planting areas created in previous years, planted new plants and also installed a nesting box. The aim of the campaign was to sustainably strengthen the area and at the same time create a meeting place.
A small puzzle, in which all participants could take part, provided additional variety. The children, the project applicant and the senior citizens got involved with great interest and enjoyment. In addition to the practical work, the main focus was on the shared experience.
The planting campaign showed once again how much can be achieved through joint commitment. The area not only gains in ecological value, but is also strengthened as a communal place in the neighbourhood. The morning was characterised by a good atmosphere, many helping hands and a tangible sense of community.
A big thank you to everyone involved for their commitment and active support. Such activities not only help the planting to grow - they also strengthen the sense of community in the neighbourhood.

A project by children for children and families
How do children see their neighbourhood? Which places mean something to them? And how can these perspectives be picked up and shared in a playful way? These questions gave rise to the idea for a very special project: a memo game designed by children - for children, families and educational and social institutions.
The game focuses on the Brandenburg district - with all its favourite places, little special features and personal impressions. At the same time, the game builds a bridge to the entire city of Eberswalde, as many of the painted motifs also show central places and locations from the city area.
The children were able to artistically depict their favourite places in the neighbourhood and the city in several painting campaigns carried out with dedicated daycare and school groups. The resulting pictures reflect the diverse, creative and often surprising views of the young residents. Selected motifs were incorporated into the memo game and lovingly prepared.
The following facilities took part in the project:
- "Puss in Boots" daycare centre
- Noah's Ark daycare centre
- "Kleeblatt" daycare centre
- "Kinderinsel" day care centre
- "Schwärzesee" primary school
The memo game is not only aimed at children, but also at families, educational professionals, parents and carers. It offers low-threshold, playful access to conversations about the neighbourhood, about belonging and about the value of one's own place of residence.
Why this project is important:
It raises awareness of the positive aspects of the Brandenburg neighbourhood and encourages identification with the place where they live - even at a young age. At the same time, the children experience that their perception counts and becomes visible. The memo game gets people talking, encourages interaction between generations and creates a stronger connection to the neighbourhood and the city.
The "Schwärzesee" sports hall of SV Motor Eberswalde is an integral part of the cityscape of the Brandenburg neighbourhood. The large gable wall on Potsdamer Allee in particular characterises the appearance - and this is exactly where things have been happening since August 2025: the area is being artistically redesigned as part of a street art project. The entrance area to the hall is also being given a new, creative look.
The SV Motor Eberswalde club was actively involved from the outset and contributed many ideas - what exactly should be on the wall was considered and planned together with the artist Philipp "Beatsen" Müller. This was previously selected in an open competition.
In several workshops, children and young people from the neighbourhood have the opportunity to develop their own designs, discuss them and ultimately even lend a hand themselves. The enthusiasm was great - after all, when do you ever have the opportunity to help shape your own neighbourhood? Philipp "Beatsen" Müller is not only responsible for realising the motifs, but also leads the workshops - with a keen sense for the ideas and perspectives of the young participants.
The artistic redesign of the hall should be completed by autumn 2025. Until then, they will be busy painting, spraying and designing.

The AWO gym in the Brandenburg district has recently been given a new, colourful look: the east and west facades were designed as part of a creative graffiti project together with young people from the district. What used to be rather inconspicuous is now a real eye-catcher and an expression of youthful creativity.
In several group workshops, the participants were able to develop their own designs together with an experienced graffiti artist and then apply them directly to the walls. From the first sketch to the final spray of paint, the focus was on artistic self-development.
But the project also had another important effect: it brought young people from the neighbourhood together, encouraged them to interact with each other and strengthened their sense of community. A project that shows: When young ideas meet open walls, more than art is created - namely a piece of lived cohesion.

The new facade design of the "Schwärzesee" sports hall of SV Motor e. V. has been completed. Graffiti artist "Beatsen" designed two sides of the hall.
The entrance side was created together with many young people in several workshops and, among other things, takes up the club's sports programmes. The club offers floorball, weightlifting, inline skating, guard dancing, badminton, chess, bowling and table tennis - some of these disciplines can be seen on the newly designed wall. The young people involved had great fun working on the design and learnt the basics of professional and responsible spraying with graffiti paint.
The gable end facing Potsdamer Platz reflects the Brandenburg Quarter with colours, symbols and motifs. As part of the public space, the façade facing the square is an important eye-catcher for the neighbourhood and its residents. The new graffiti thus contributes to enhancing the cityscape.
A small inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, at 12 noon. Together with the artists, SV Motor e.V., members of the speaker's council, the urban development office and the neighbourhood management, the new graffiti could be inspected on site.
The project was funded by the "Social Cohesion" programme.
Many thanks to all participants and supporters!

previous projects
We were delighted to carry out a planting project at the rainwater retention basin on Frankfurter Allee/Spechthausener Straße on 3 April 2024. As the regionality of the plants plays a major role, the plant species to be used were agreed with the city of Eberswalde. The project applicant (Mr Neumann) then procured numerous plants.
On site, 10 lavender bushes were planted with a group from the Kinderinsel after-school care centre. the children also learnt a lot about plant care and the benefits of flowers and shrubs for the environment.
The care of already planted shrubs was also an important topic and was explained in theory and then put into practice. The plants were planted, watered and cared for together. We now hope that they will grow well and that we will soon be able to create a sea of flowers for insects and for the eye.
The "Beekeeping in the neighbourhood" project was launched back in 2021 by Bernd Pfeifer in collaboration with Wohnungsgenossenschaft Eberswalde 1893 eG, Hebewerk e.V. and the neighbourhood management.
Since then, the beekeepers and, above all, the four bee colonies have become well integrated into the neighbourhood. The project will continue in 2024.
The five beekeepers want to raise interest in honey bees and understanding for the support of all insects. An insect hotel was built for this purpose, for example. The plan for 2024 is to build a log hive (an artificial bee dwelling) that can be set up as a demonstration apiary. All interested parties, school and daycare groups, as well as contributors from the Brandenburg neighbourhood can thus be introduced to the keeping of honey bees and practices for expanding bee colonies. The honey collected will be harvested collectively and the proper treatment of the bees will be taught.
You can buy delicious honey at festivities in the neighbourhood. Mr Bernd Pfeifer is available in the neighbourhood office on Mondays and Fridays: 03334 81 82 45.
30 pre-school children from Noah's Ark day-care centre go on a bus tour to the animals of prehistoric times. The aim is to show the children the animals of prehistoric times and compare them with today's animals in the zoo.
We wish all the children a great and eventful project day.
The plants at the rainwater retention basin on Frankfurter Allee will be expanded again this year. The plants already planted will be expanded in an intergenerational planting campaign. The regionality and longevity of the plants is particularly important. Mr Neumann (project applicant) and the neighbourhood management team discussed the choice of plants with the city of Eberswalde and selected them accordingly.
The project focuses on the diversity of the plants and intergenerational interaction.
On 30 March, senior citizens from the AWO and children from the Arche Noah daycare centre worked together to replant and care for the plants, and everyone was able to learn a lot from working together.
The neighbourhood cinema is a free event for people from Eberswalde. The cinema starts every first Monday of the month at 6 pm in the Dietrich Bonhoeffer House.

Two queen bees have already moved into Havellandstraße 15 in the spring. Gerlinde and Elfriede are building up their colonies and diligently collecting food in their neighbourhood. The first honey has already been extracted and can be purchased at the Fête de la Viertel - it will be delicious.
Among other things, the bee group presented itself together with the QM at the blue-green festival of the 1893 eG. A beehive was on display and there was plenty of other information and educational material about bees and beekeeping. Anyone interested in beekeeping or woodwork is welcome to contact the project manager Mr Pfeifer. He is always available on Mondays and Fridays in the on-site office of the neighbourhood management and on 03334 818245.

From June, there will be a new meeting place for young and old in the Brandenburg neighbourhood - the AWO is opening a meeting café. The café will be set up in the dining room of the nursing home "Im Wolfswinkel" (Beeskower Straße 1, 16227 Eberswalde) with use of the terrace. The doors of the café are open to everyone every Thursday to Sunday from 14:00 - 18:00. Thanks to the barrier-free design, access is granted to all people and enables an uncomplicated exchange.
The AWO also offers a food service in the event of the closure of the Netto branch in the Heidewald Centre. A small shop will also be opened at Frankfurter Allee 24 to offer people with limited mobility in particular the opportunity to shop close to home.
As the potential for violence among children and young people is perceived to be increasing, a project to prevent violence will be implemented from June. Organisers from the Brandenburg district will have the opportunity to attend workshops in June and July and learn ways to achieve non-violent conflict resolution, peaceful coexistence and constructive ways of dealing with conflicts.
In addition, therapeutic (non-violent) boxing is offered in the youth clubs in the city of Eberswalde to make young people aware of their own physical strength and to take preventative action against violent behaviour.
The "Helle Stunde mit Kultur" project is a free cultural programme for the Brandenburg district that takes place every Wednesday on Potsdamer Platz as part of the weekly market. The "Helle Stunde" will enter its fourth season in 2024. From 29 May to 9 October, there will always be changing performances on Wednesday mornings from 11:00 - 12:00. Various artists will perform at the weekly market, helping to revitalise the market.
Further information on the respective events can be found on the Mescal website:https://mescal.de/helle-stunde/
Once again this year, Britta Tomis from "Hunde im Blick" will be offering free dog training at the dog exercise area in Barnim Park (in the Brandenburg neighbourhood). The dog training will take place every Thursday from 4.00 to 5.00 pm from 22 February to 28 November 2024. This year, dog training will focus more on creating a closer bond between dog and owner.
Basic commands should already be internalised by the dogs. The training will focus on the use of the course in a playful way in appropriate co-operation. The course equipment will be used and exercises with dogs and humans will be utilised. In addition, the topic of promoting the bond between dog and owner will be part of the training.
Dog trainer Britta Tomis is on site every Thursday and welcomes new faces and dog noses.
Have you been to Barnim Park yet?
Since 22/09/2023 you can do sports there at any time. On 23/09/2023, the round table tennis table was inaugurated at a table tennis tournament. Many thanks to Werner Voigt, Torsten Schröder and the SPI for organising the tournament and for their support. On Tuesday, 26 September 2023, the calisthenics facility was inaugurated together with you.
We are delighted that you like the facility so much and that you were all active.
A big thank you to Workout-Parks for the great training sessions for all age groups.
Why don't you drop by and do some sport there? For training inspiration, there are also training plans and exercises for different fitness levels on the board.
Stop by and get fit!
The "Qualification Barnim Park" project aims to design the central area of Barnim Park. A table tennis table, a sports bench, relaxation benches and a calisthenics machine are to be purchased, set up together and inaugurated. The building yard has also already made it possible to dismantle the roofs, move and remove the damaged seating stones and lay the foundations.
Thanks to our many cooperation partners, we are able to realise the project to this extent. Our thanks go to the Office for Social Participation and Integration - Youth Coordination, the Urban Development Office, the Civil Engineering Office, the building yard, our craftsman Mr Lehniger and the youth participation process JudiEs. Special thanks go to SPI, our realisation partner.
We kicked things off on Volunteer Day by installing rubbish bins together with many energetic volunteers.
A lot will change there in the summer months. We will keep you up to date here and on our Facebook page.
